The infantry are individual soldiers who are tasked with fighting enemy infantry on foot, face to face. They are the backbone of all military; all other roles in a military, from artillery to special operations forces, exist to augment and support the infantryman.

The mission of the infantry is to close with and destroy enemy infantry by fire and maneuver, and (if in a defensive role) to repel the enemy assault by fire, maneuver, and close combat.
