The Empire of Japan was a constitutional monarchy, empire and world power from the Meji Restoration on January 3, 1868 to the enactment of 1947 Constitution of modern Japan.

Following the end of the Boshin War, Imperial Japan went into a rapid industrialization and militarzation under the slogan Fukoku Kyohei (meaning "Enrich the Country, Strengthen the Armed Forces.") in which it led to it's emergence as a World Power following the end of the Russo-Japanese War.
